"There is no beautifier of complexion, or form, or behavior, like the wish to scatter joy and not pain around us." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
The weekend was quite eventful for this humble baker.
On Saturday I had the honor of making the desserts for a baby shower for one of my dearest friends, MF. She is expecting twins and I was so excited when she asked me if I would provide the sweet treats for her celebratory day. I made baby rattle cupcakes, praline Cheesecake bites, the infamous Sandra Bernhard cookies (Sarah Bernhardt cookies), and regular cupcakes. I think everything turned out quite well.
The setting could not have been more pleasant. In MF's apartment, looking over the Hudson and lower Manhattan, a group of people gathered to celebrate two babies, a boy and a girl, that are still tucked away in their mother's womb. There was laughter and gifts and it was so nice to see MF, strikingly beautiful pregnant or not, scattering joy amongst those that have the privilege to call her friend.
Pictures below and my weekend continued, after the jump
The rest of my weekend has very little (read: nothing) to do with baking so if you want to see the pics of the desserts from the shower skip the next few paragraphs and instead scroll down.
The night before the shower I went to see Cinephilia at The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row on 42nd Street. I was actually blown away by the show. Cinephilia is a dramedy that takes place in an apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. You don't need to be a cinephile to appreciate this show, as the acting and writing are superb and I hope for the sake of theater lovers in New York that this show gets the exposure it deserves. It only runs through the 15th of June but tickets are cheap. So New Yorkers and tourists alike, get out there and see this show. It is fantastic. And be sure to note the acting of Katie Cappiello, who plays Arden. Out. Of. This. World! This girl is going places. And Leslye Headland, the playwright, is a magician with words.
I should note that my brother, a NYU sophomore, was the stage manager for this show. But also note that I would not take up precious space on my site to plug a show I did not like, no matter if my brother was a part of it or not. I just need to stress, one more time RUN, DON'T WALK, AND SEE THIS SHOW! You will not be disappointed!
On Sunday my friend Michael and I went to Queens for a party thrown by our friend Doug. It was a wonderful day and I got some hot knock off...errr, I mean really cheap authentic D&G sunglasses.
Pictures of the shower and my day in Queens, along with captions when necessary, are below.
Baby Rattle Cupcakes. I will post the recipe for this within the week.
